Tarapith is a well-known holy place for the pious Hindus,
especially those residing in West Bengal. However, the small town in Birbhum
district receives footfalls from tourists outside of Bengal. It never makes an
ideal spot if you want to drink to the dollops of natural beauty but is
definitely a good choice for those seeking diving blessing.
There are a few sightseeing spots away from Tarapith and you can
make a short trip to them, with Labhpur (birth place of famous Bengali author
Tarashankar Bandopadhyay) being most famous. You will find many a reputed and
luxury hotel in Tarapith along with a strong line-up of several budget
accommodations to greet the guests with best imaginable hospitality.
The town has a temple of Ma Tara or Goddess Kali and so is the
name Tarapith. The temple is a crowd-puller, receiving thousands of devotees
every day. Previously, it was a big problem for the visitors to find a suitable
place to stay at night. There were only a few hotels and they were not up to
the mark.
Tarapith is also famous for mad saint Bamakhepa. He worshipped to
the Goddess in the same temple. He learnt tantric art and yoga from another great
saint namely Kailashpathi Baba. Bamakhepa, who pledged his entire life to
worship of Kali, had his ashram built near the temple.
Tarapith Hotels
In earlier days, most of the travelers used to set out for Tarapith
early in the morning. After paying a visit to the Goddess, they had some lunch in
noon and were on their way to home by afternoon. Without any doubt, it was a
hectic journey for them. For the rest, it was only a one-night stand in inns or
likes.
However, much has changed over time and almost innumerable hotels
are now dotting the town map, catering to the needs of affluent class as well
as economic brackets.
Majority of the hotels available in Tarapith are for the
middle-class people. Most of these hotels offer food plus lodging while a few
require the tourists to dine out elsewhere. In both budget and five-star
hotels, Bengali cuisines are a must find.
Keeping in mind that well-heeled people always seek for
world-class facilities whether it is at their home or in a hotel, several big
names have opened their hospitality venture in Tarapith. However, they are only
a few in number. More are in the pipeline and you can hope to see a larger
constellation of them in near future.
Luxury hotels are costly but they are worth demanding extra for
the kind of comfort and facilities provided. A big dining hall, gym, car parking
place, spacious community hall and plush interiors are a common sight in luxury
hotels.
close proximity with the temple so that you can
hear chanting of mantras throughout the day. These hotels are a few steps away from the temple. From the balcony in your hotel, you can see line of visitors tiptoeing to the temple. Book in advance but before booking, learn whether you can afford to stay there.
